Christmas Cheer

One Christmas many long years ago I was trying to date a young lady. It was Christmas time and cheer was everywhere. I called said young lady early an Saturday morning to see if she would go out wiyh me for a day of fun. She said she had volunteered to wrap Christmas gifts at the local mall for charity I told her I was an expert wrapper and would love to come along and help, surprised she said great!

On to the mall and up to the huge wrapping station right in the middle of the mall. We went right to work wrapping and on or about the third gift I wrapped the woman in charge came over and asked me to go down to the basement and fill up this metal cart with mre paper, tape, and ribbons. I gladly agreed and off I went. I took me about 45 minutes to get the supplies. After unloading the paper and such I reluctantly went back to the wrapping station to get back to the job at hand

Just as I got my first package another woman wrapper came over and asked me to go to the cookie factory on the other side of the mall. She said they were donating cookies and hot chocolates to all of us. Off I went with the cart. After filling the cart with cookies and cocoas back to the wrapping station. That trip only took a half hour. Passing out the treats and making sure everyone got some I went back to wrap some more gifts. My young date was happy to have me back and said she was going on break and asked me to come along and help her shop. An hour later we returned to wrap some more gifts.

Now we had been there for almost four hours and I had only wrapped three packages so far. Just as I was getting ready to wrap a gift the woman running the wrap station came over and asked, we to do another errand I told her that if I was so bad at wrapping, she should just tell me and not pretend to send me all over the mall to make sure I didn’t wrap any more gifts. She smiled politely and said, Bill, you are by far the worst wrapper we have ever seen. I turned and saw my date laughing. She walked over and said, if you are willing to do all of this just to go out with me, take me out for lunch. So ends my Christmas wrapping experience forever.
