Kenny Galvin of the Boston Galvins was a bootblack in Washington D.C. Not your average everyday bootblack, he owned nine shoeshine stalls in all of the best malls in and around the city. Kenny worked the stall in the Georgetown Park across the street from where I worked I worked at the Saloon asmall local bar with live jazz, backgammon tournaments, and a bevy of local and not so local color. Back to Kenny. Kenny was only five foot two inches in height but twelve feet in stature. Being of Irish decent he had that terrible irish habit of drinking too much. Too much for Kenny was six or seven drinks and then he became a terrible Irish Drunk.
Not only terrible, but terrible without any common sense. He always seemed to pick his fight with the largest, meanest person around. Then I would have to back him up in the losing battle. The first time I met Kenny was in Old Macs alocol hangout watering hole. We were sitting at the commons table in the middle of the bar. People coming and going, and chairs going and coming aaand when Kenny got up ti hit the head My pal Jody, a six fott eight 375 pound pal of mine came in. He saw two gals sitting at a table, waved, and then reached over our table amd grabbed Kenny’s chair. He carried it to the table with the two girls at it and sat down.
And then came Kenny! Seeing his chair missing he roared Where the Hell is my chair. Soloud that everthing stopped and everyone looked. Jody got up and said he had the chair and was on his way to return it when Kenny, all five foot two of him leaped over the table and on to Jody all six foot eight of him. Needless to say it wasn’t much of a fight. Although Kenny managed to knock Jody down and was on top of him tring to hit Jody, Jody just held him up and let him swing himself out. Are we gone yet Jody asked and Kenny just nodded. Jody apologized for the stolen chair and the bar went back to normal. Alls well and I went over and sat with Jody and the girls And Kenny forgot all about everything.
moore Kenny to come.
