Starting out from dingle we were making our way to Galway. It would have been a two or three hour drive, but you need a car for that and we were hitchhiking We walked out of town and up the mountain in the early morning fog. Half way up a lorry stopped for us and took us to the other side of the mountain and into the rolling hills and farmland of county Kerry. After a few short lifts we made it to Tralee and had a light lunch. Back on the road we walked some three or four miles until another rlorry stopped. He took us all the way to the cliffs of Moher. A little sightseeing and then off again. By now it was almost 4:00 pm and we were walking through beautiful farmland. Taking a break we leaned our packs on one of the many stone walls. While sharing a cigarette in the shade I pulled one of my miniature Canadian Clubs out of my pack. One sip later a car stopped and gave us a lift all the way to Galway. We had just been talking about sleeping in one of the barns on the farm nearby, but were saved. Two gals from California touring by car on their way to Galway. when they dropped us off at the green downtown we offered to buy them a drink, but they refused. I pulled out the rest of my mini and while drinking it I heard the one giel say to the other ” I told you I smelled whiskey, but how could he get it in the middle of nowhere?”
